Our digestive bitters when used properly are alcohol-free and safe for people avoiding alcohol. The FDA defines beverages with less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) as non-alcoholic.

Alcohol-derived bitters do have a high alcohol content. However, these are not intended for direct consumption. Bitters are formulated to be used in drops to flavor foods and beverages. So even products made with alcohol-derived bitters are considered non-alcoholic by the FDA when used in proper amounts.

Rest assured our digestive bitters can be enjoyed alcohol-free. We adhere to strict standards to provide the health benefits of bitters without the concerns of alcohol.

No, is the short answer. Our bitters contain less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) when used as directed. This low alcohol content means it is not possible to become intoxicated, no matter how many drinks you consume. Beverages like fruit juice and bread can actually have higher natural alcohol levels – for example, orange juice may contain up to 0.73% ABV and grape juice up to 0.86% ABV. So you can enjoy our drinks without worrying about impairment.

Absolutely! Our bitters are a great addition to cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. While our bitters themselves are non-alcoholic, they can be used to enhance the flavor of craft cocktails and classic mixed drinks.

Some popular ways to incorporate our bitters into cocktails include:

  • Old Fashioneds – Add a few dashes of bitters to bring out the flavors of whiskey or bourbon.

  • Manhattans – Bitters are a key ingredient in this classic cocktail made with rye whiskey and sweet vermouth.

  • Martinis – Stir in a few drops of bitters for a more complex botanical gin or vodka martini.

So don’t hesitate to get creative and add our bitters to your favorite cocktails! Check out our cocktail recipes page for inspiration on new drink ideas. Bitters are a great way to elevate any alcoholic drink.

Yes. Bitters stimulate the body’s natural digestive response. Tasting the bitter flavor signals your body to produce more enzymes and stomach acid to break down food.

For best results, take bitters 10-15 minutes before eating to prime digestion. Bitters can also provide relief from occasional indigestion or heartburn when taken after meals. By leveraging your body’s innate digestive wisdom, bitters optimize digestion when you taste their unique bitter flavor. Learn more about bitters here.

The safety of digestive bitters during pregnancy has not been conclusively established. There is limited research available on concentrated herbal bitters and their effects when pregnant. While some bitter herbs may be safe in small culinary amounts, the higher concentrations found in digestive bitters have not been confirmed as safe.

As with any supplement when pregnant, caution is advised. We suggest speaking with your doctor before using our digestive bitters while pregnant or breastfeeding. Some OBGYNs may approve bitters in pregnancy after reviewing the ingredients, but medical guidance is recommended.
