You might already be using chia seeds in your smoothies or mixing it into a hydrating powerhouse gel, but have considered what it can do for your skin? We are here to explain why we use supercritical chia oil in our Nourish Facial Oil and Nourish Balm.
What is chia oil?
Supercritical chia seed oil (salvia hispanica) is extracted from chia seeds using CO2, preserving the botanical properties of the seeds. It’s rich in skin-fortifying fatty acids, vitamin B3, and zinc, which assists to unclog pores. It’s a lighter oil, allowing it to absorb quickly into the skin without making you look greasy. Not only that, it has one of the highest levels of antioxidants when compared to any other oil. To say it’s beneficial is an understatement.
What are the benefits?
Chia oil’s anti-inflammatory capability can help fight UV damage and blemishes, which may help minimize hyperpigmentation (dark spots). In addition to that, its high concentration of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids actually help build collagen, which is key for maintaining glowing skin. Its main claim to fame is hydration! Chia’s high-fiber content works as a humectant physically pulling water into the skin to help maintain moisture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and even helping to relieve dryness and peeling.
How to use supercritical chia oil?
As a daily moisturizer: We consider Nourish Facial Oil to be health food for our skin. Add 3-5 drops in the palm of your hand, rub your palms together, and press into clean damp skin.
For blemishes: Combined with CBD our Nourish Facial Oil is an anti-inflammatory powerhouse, which can help clear blemishes fast. Use it as a spot treatment by applying it to blemishes with a cotton swab. Allow it to absorb before applying any other products.
As a ritual: We love to use our hydrosols and Nourish Oil when we gua sha our faces. Nourish gives the perfect amount of slip (IMHO ). Spray your face and neck with your favorite hydrosol, add at least 8 drops of Nourish Oil in the palm of your hand, rub your palms together, and press into face and neck. Massage.
Our Gua Sha Kits come with instructions on how to use the tool on your face and sample of Nourish Oil.
For shiny hair: The protein and zinc present in chia oil is the perfect fit for hair health. Apply two to three drops of Nourish Oil to your palms, rub together and add it to damp hair to moisturize. Or use as a finishing styling oil that can protect and smooths away frizz.
As an eye balm: Chia seed oil can tighten skin, so when it’s applied to the under eye it helps to diminish bags and sagging while nourishing the delicate skin. Just pat a small amount of Nourish Balm under your eyes with your ring finger and let it go to work.
