Imprinted into my 80’s childhood experience are snippets of advice I received from television ads. Whether it was that milk did a body good (debatable) or a cup of coffee was good to the last drop (truth), the ad slogans sunk in. Beauty advertisements were no less effective, we were all told by Kelly LeBrock in a Pantene ad, “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.”

That Pantene ad campaign turned out to be one of the most memorable of the decade. Pantene, Swiss founded in 1945, was acquired by Procter and Gamble in 1985. Less than a year later, the Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful ad aired on television and within 10 years Pantene was a billion dollar brand. The Pantene campaign was and still is a testimonial to ad dollars well spent.

Thirty-three years have passed since the Pantene ad aired and when it comes to ad budgets in the beauty industry, projections pin the beauty industry spending a collective $2,708 million + annually. ¹

Despite huge ad budgets and persuasive marketing in the beauty industry, there has been a notable shift that reflects a rising consumer preference to clean beauty products.

Beauty and CBD
