Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oil

Hemp oil is not the same as CBD oil.

CBD oil is found in our Cordial Organics Balance CBD Oil. It is made from extracting a full spectrum of cannabinoids that includes CBD from the leaves, stalks, and flowers of hemp plants (cannabis sativa). Hemp oil is made from pressed hemp seeds which means there is little or no cannabinoids including CBD to be found.

We wrote a blog post on the importance of reading and understanding labels when it comes to purchasing CBD oil. A lot of companies are falsely claiming their product has cannabinoids such as CBD when actually it is pure hemp oil (hemp extract) with no cannabinoids at all.

Hemp Oil

Hemp oil has become the common name for what is actually hemp seed oil. Hemp oil has been available on grocery shelves for more than a decade in the United States of America. Hemp oil is made from cold pressing hemp seeds and the result is a green oil that is nutty in flavor. Cold pressing, maintains the nutrients and flavor in the oil from the hemp seed more so than other methods. Hemp oil is great for cooking and for use in skincare.

When using hemp oil in cooking, keep in mind the smoke point of hemp oil is 330 F / 165 C. When you cook with an oil that’s been heated past its smoke point, you do more than add a burnt flavor to your cooking. Beneficial nutrients and phytochemicals found in many unrefined oils are destroyed when the oil is overheated. Overheating also creates harmful free radicals.

Hemp Oil and Skin Health

Hemp oil offers many benefits when applied topically. Hemp oil is a super moisturizer that doesn’t clog your pores. Hemp oil is rich in omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. One of the omega-6 fatty acids in hemp oil is gamma linolenic acid (commonly referred to as GLA). GLA is a powerful antioxidant that has been shown to improve skin health by encouraging skin growth and new cell regeneration.

The benefits of hemp oil for the skin are plenty and that is why we chose to add hemp oil to our much loved topicals Restore, Ritual Body Oil, and Restore Heat.

Hemp Oil and Health

A study conducted by the US Government on mice and hemp oil shows that hemp seed contains healthy fat as well as active compounds that can protect the brain against inflammation.

Hemp oil contains alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid also found in flax and fish oil, known to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

CBD Oil

CBD oil is formulated with cannabinoids that have been extracted from hemp (cannabis sativa) and added to a carrier oil. In the case of Balance and Enhance, we use MCT oil. We wrote about the benefits of MCT oil why we chose MCT oil as a carrier oil in this post.
